In Geneva, the city of peace, a modern slave crosses paths with a schemer. Both find a way to break their chains through contact with each other, and thanks to the volunteers of a migrant aid association led by their director, a true believer with a big heart.

Fred Baillif

Born in 1973 in Geneva, Fred Baillif graduated from the Institute of Social Studies in 2000. A self-taught director, he trained in New York, among other places. His first documentary, SIDEMAN, was produced in 2002, followed by seven others, including GEISENDORF (2006), which was selected for several festivals and won the RTS prize for best Swiss documentary at Visions du Réel. Fred Baillif specializes in immersion documentaries, developing over the years a direct cinema that highlights his characters above all.

In 2015, his first feature-length fiction film TAPIS ROUGE was released, a project about a group of young people wanting to make a film is awarded in several festivals. Fred Baillif is a committed director, working on improvisation with professional and non-professional actors. LA PREUVE SCIENTIFIQUE DE L’EXISTENCE DE DIEU, his second film, has been released in 2019. His latest film, LA MIF won the Generation 14plus award at the 2021 Berlinale.

Joanne Giger

A native of Switzerland, Joanne Giger is a film and television screenwriter who works in Europe and in the United States. After studying cinema in Paris and Los Angeles, she writes her first feature, MES COPINES, starring Léa Seydoux and Soko, in 2006. It is followed, among other, by THE END OF THE LINE starring Simon Helberg and Brett Gelman, selected at Sundance 2018, and LE MILIEU DE L’HORIZON starring Laetitia Casta and Clémence Poesy, winner of the Lurra Prize at San Sebastian as well as the Quartz for Best Screenplay and Best Film in 2020. Ms. Giger has also several TV projects including LES INDOCILES for the Television Suisse Romande and is currently adapting for the screen, L’HOMME QUI S’ENVOLA (Gallimard) with Josh Olson, writer of History of Violence as well as Leila Slimani’s A Mains nues with Mélanie Laurent. Her new feature L’Échappée directed by Hugues Hariche and produced by Gekko Films has been released in 2022.
